The Poplar Reveal

Imagine living on 2 acres of tree-lined beauty just 10 minutes outside of the city…Lots like this don’t come up every day and I think it’s pretty incredible that our clients were able to snag this particular slice of heaven for their Saskatoon acreage build.

Exterior

The driveway is what wows me about this particular location. When you drive by on the road you can’t even see the house. When you turn down the driveway it’s lined with trees that look incredible 12 months of the year. Each time I’ve been at this project over the past year I feel a sense of calmness as I drive into the house, a feeling you can’t get just anywhere. As much as I could go on and on about this house for days I know you’re here for the nitty gritty design details so that’s what I’ll give you!

Entry

The site-lines in this home are simply magnificent! Upon entering through the double doors you stand in a massive entryway that overlooks the railing to the basement as well as the living room. We completed this space with a 6×9 washable rug from Ruggable – The perfect solution for our Canadian weather and snowy/muddy boots. We also incorporated family photos on the stairwell wall by using white metal frames from Urban Barn and black and white photos to give the space a soft appearance. Lastly, I can’t forget about that stunning bench! I searched high and low for a longer sized bench that was modern but comfortable at the same time and our friends at International Furniture surely delivered!

Living Room
Living Room

The living room is undoubtedly another favorite spot of mine. This area has more than enough storage with built-in cabinets on the left as well as drawer storage on the right. The 12’ ceilings are complete with white oak beams and a stunning chandelier. We went with Limestone “Alpaca and Timberwolf” stone on the fireplace to warm up the space. The limestone complimented the white oak so perfectly! The cozy grey armchairs, coffee table and end table were all purchased from Urban Barn. The stunning beige couch was purchased from The Bay and came customizable so we were able to create pieces that fit the space as we pleased. The space was finished off with a custom bench seat cushion from Home By Randi as well as a 9×12 area rug to ground the room.

The dining room was designed to maximize the gorgeous views with windows that went all the way to the floor. We utilized custom built-in cabinetry to house all the entertaining items our clients have as well as a chevron wine rack in the middle. The chevron backsplash above is made of real marble and compliments the wine rack below. The shelves were made out of white oak and are an incredible spot to display beautiful items. We used the clients existing dining room table and paired it with new accent chairs as well as a faux eucalyptus tree and potter to soften the space.

Kitchen

The kitchen flows seamlessly from the dining room and has a tremendous amount of hidden storage. We incorporated backside island storage as well as side island drawers to maximize the space. The backsplash is a tile but mimics authentic brick. Instead of doing the predictable under-counter lighting we added ambiance with two gold sconces incorporated into the cabinet sides. The two island pendants have a “schoolhouse look” and provide great light. Lastly, the bar stools are extra comfy and provide low back support which is a huge plus!

Ensuite

The view through this window is so stunning it looks photoshopped but I can assure you it’s not! The 67” freestanding tub is one of our favorites as it comes with a customizable overflow drain so you can match the finish to your faucet. As a designer these are the small details that all add up in the end. The chandelier over the tub adds a touch of elegance and a blissful experience when having a soak.

Sharing a few more of our favorite shots of the house below. Each home we build holds a special place in my heart and handing over keys at possession is both a happy moment and sad moment all at the same time. I can’t say enough amazing things about these clients – Just talking about them makes me teary eyed. Thank you for trusting us with your forever home, thank you for loving on our family and staff, and thank you for giving us this incredible opportunity!
