This weekend, the Saskatoon & Region Home Builders Association hosted the 31st Annual Housing Excellence Awards. The awards celebrate the achievements of the Association’s professional members who advance the goals of the residential construction industry! (Essentially, it’s the Superbowl for builders and renovators in Saskatoon).
We were fortunate to win multiple awards this year, and we want to thank all of our clients (past and present) for the trust they have bestowed upon us.
We understand the leap people take to select a builder or renovator. With this in mind, we are so grateful to be their builder of choice! We are most proud to be awarded the 2022 Customer Choice Builder, for Medium Volume. We have put a huge focus on our client experience, and it has paid off!
To our staff, tradespeople and suppliers – thank you! Your continued support, commitment and dedication is an integral part of our success. Home building is a team effort, and we couldn’t do what we do without these amazing people.
We are extremely excited to be recognized for this years’ awards and continuing to strive forward! With that said, we have shared the full list of awards and the projects that were selected below…
Customer Choice – Medium Volume Builder
The Customer Choice Awards recognize certified builder members who best deliver the assurance of quality in providing goods and or services as judged by their customers. This category was presented by the Saskatoon & Region Home Builders’ Association in partnership with Avid Ratings. We are honored to be the 2022 Customer Choice Builder – Medium Volume.
Best New Home Design
“The Campbell” was a perfect blend of farmhouse, modern and classic designs. This home wows with tall ceilings and a unique floor plan.
The board and batten exterior accomplished the farmhouse style while the large massing, dormers, and gables added elegance.
The interior beams, shiplap, and wood elements helped ground the classic elements like coffered ceilings, fireplace, and glass details.
The custom layout brings family together. It also features dual walk-in pantries, a guest suite and a designer kitchen. The ensuite has access to the laundry, in floor heat and a unique electronic shower valve.
Upgraded insulation, zoned heating and air sealing added natural comfort to the home. The natural gas generator adds peace of mind.
The biggest hurdle to overcome was the unexpected 3’ of disturbed soil found at excavation. This surprise added significant time, money and engineering to the project.
In the end, this showstopper had mindful and intentional details at every sightline.
Best Custom Home over 3500 sqft.
“The Campbell” This acreage build boasts 3,789 square feet of spacious and functional living. This home was designed so that everyone and everything had its own individual spot.
The design details in this build are absolutely breathtaking. From the shiplap ceiling to the oak beams running the entire length of the kitchen and dining room. You can’t help but stop and gaze.
Special layout features like the dual walk in pantry’s, monster primary walk in closet and home office perfectly blend with the design features like the oversized fireplace, magazine like kitchen and cozy laundry room.
The owners of this home are spoiled with direct laundry access off their ensuite, in floor heat and a unique electronic shower valve (because who wants to walk into a shower with cold water!).
The home was built with air sealing and upgraded insulation in mind and will not have to worry about power outages with the natural gas generator.
Whether you are visiting in the main living area, working in the home office or relaxing in the walkout basement, this home has mindful and intentional details every directsion you look.
Best Custom Home 1,801-2500 sqft.
Welcome to “The Artisan”. This beautiful infill home has a functional and timeless design.
A joy of infill construction, is building unique exteriors that blend with a neighbourhood while also creating vibrance and style. “The Artisan” absolutely accomplished that.
This home makes you stop and stare. The exterior features a curved brick wall, a blend of painted brick, stone, siding as well as other tasteful details.
Inside the home, the use of natural light was important. By filling the main area with large windows, it fills the space with natural light and brings the outside in.
For this family thoughtful storage, timeless design, and a welcoming feel was vital. Soft accent colours, subtle design touches and natural wood tones create comfort. The home office, butler pantry, and 2nd floor laundry bring the home ample functionality.
Some favorite features of this home were:
- The white oak hardwood floors
- Counter to ceiling kitchen backsplash
- Office cabinetry
- Stairwell wainscotting
- The large front entry
One benefit of a custom home is being able to create a space that functions for the way you live. This home accomplished that!
Best Production Home 1501-1900 sq’
“The Newport”, is a modern infill design. The California inspired design stand out with its oversized windows, simple lines and metal accents
Upon entering the house, you are met with a custom black walnut slat wall. This unique feature creates separation between the entry and the rest of the main living area.
As you enter the living space, every sight line has design detail that makes you feel at home. From the waterfall island to the lime concrete living room wall to the 12’ dining room door, this home impresses.
Upstairs, the primary bedroom is an oasis with 10’ vaulted ceilings, a private balcony and a gas fireplace. As a cherry on top, the beautifully designed ensuite has direct laundry access, which adds convenience most floor plans don’t.
The finished basement is a perfect place to relax and work out. As an infill under 1900 sf., this home has it all!
Kitchen Renovation of the Year over $50,000
“The Ramsay” is a kitchen renovation that brightened up and entire split level home. Also it added personality and an amazing entertaining space.
The biggest wow factor is the amount of cabinetry and the newly vaulted ceiling. By removing a structural wall, we were able to increase the ceiling height, which allowed for more cabinetry and storage and a dreamy chef sized island.
Undeniably, the new open concept layout added both function and beauty. The two-toned cabinets and large island white oak shelves and custom wine rack make immediate statements.
Additionally, the required structural ceiling work allowed us to upgrade the insulation and vapor barrier to today’s standard. This added comfort for this family into the future.
Best Brochure/Kit
In this brochure, the photos are what immediately catch your attention. While you open the cover you are taken through our entire build process. From there you can start formulating specific questions.
The goal of this booklet was to give an overarching understanding of our process, and to prepare the clients before they start working with Spruce Homes. Additionally, we understand that design is important to our custom-building clients, and we kept that in mind while designing the brochure. Making it clean and crisp while still being informative and eye-catching was important. We are proud that the brochure is timeless content that will be used for years to come.
Once again thank you to our clients, staff, trades and suppliers for making all of these accomplishments possible. We don’t take lightly the amount of trust that our clients put in us. We went into this years awards ceremony with one goal in mind – Win the 2022 Customer Choice Builde. We’re beyond ecstatic that we came home with the win!
